I’m posting this because a snake-handling pastor from Southern West Virginia died recently after handling a timber rattler.
As per his faith’s instruction, he did not seek medical attention.
And he died.
This is a good example of why certain religious dogmas are not necessarily good for people.
Natural History 
So often have we seen programmes like this aired in Britain, including those about this minor snake loving hillbilly cult, we cannot even be bothered to sneer at it anymore.
All religeon, in my view, is based on self delusion and lies and these cults belong to the extreme end of the phenomenon. The roman catholic religeon itself, with its saints, relics and miracles, is arguably no less bizarre than these snake dancers. The whole concept and practice of religeon in all of its weird manifestations is ridiculous in my opinion.
You could even include the ‘worship’ of various political ‘cults’ to be within this category of human self delusion. I would suggest for example that even the philosophy and dogma of the republican party in the USA to be at the lower end of it. The list of these bizarre cults is almost endless, it seems. Back in the real world we have quite enough to work on for our mere survival without all of that nonsense.
