I would like for what he says at the end to not happen.
But my guess is it will.
Killer whale exhibits will be even more popular.
And this really should be a clarion call to seriously talk about ending the captive orca and dolphin industry.

This guy is an “expert?”
And he’s shocked, shocked that an orca killed a trainer?
There isn’t a wild animal trainer in the world who is surprised.
His claim that this attack is unprecedented is bollocks. Orcas and other marine mammals attack their handlers all the time. Usually the result is not so spectacularly tragic. But even this is not unprecedented or unexpected.
He is known for occasionally dabbling in cryptozoology:

I’m not shocked at all.
I’ve done some google searches. Only three attempted attacks on people from wild orcas worldwide. One of them involved an Antarctic orca that tried to make waves over an iceberg that contained a dogsled and a musher. Apparently the whale mistook the dogs for barking seals. (Antarctica doesn’t have a indigenous dog population). One bit someone in California, and another bumped a child.
But there are dozens of incidents with captive ones. Dozens.
Even those ones that beach themselves in Patagonia to kill sea lions will let people swim near them.
The history of this whales instinct to kill( anything) show that it should be returned to the sea. I know they can’t just drop it off a boat but they reintroduce many animals into the wild with success. W ith this creatures habits becoming more predatory It may be the only way to save it’s life.
I feel horrible for the family of the trainer, however she must have known that any animal is capable of killing when she started in that field. I don’t believe any other person is safe with that whale any longer.
I know this sounds like a weird comparisson but I had a Border collie mix who had never seen a sheep but she had the herding instinct from the beginning. I believe its why pit bulls attack as well, they are doing what instinct tells them to.
Dogs have been domesticated for so long but still have “wild” instincts how could we expect creatures who man has just begun to “play” with not have theirs for generations to come.
Killer whale exhibits will be more popular for the same reason that NASCAR is popular: people are hoping for a good wreck.
I’m frankly surprised some tourist’s video of the moment hasn’t surfaced on YouTube.
I learned a new word today when I dug into the incident regarding the second fatality. The one that smacks of psychological problems in the deceased.
Vorarephilia. Now, while I’m pretty sure some sort of -philia was going on with the nude guy taking a midnight swim with the Orca, I also discovered that there’s an entire class of folks out there who get off on getting eaten by Orcas (and other animals).
I fear for humanity. I really do.
